Arranged for solo piano by Michael A. Grant
One of the most well-loved symphonies ever written is now available in an edition for solo piano!
This new 59-page transcription features the entirety of Sibelius’ 2nd Symphony, complete and unabridged, arranged for piano. It has been painstakingly prepared from the orchestral score, with great care being taken to adapt it to the unique medium of the keyboard. The result is an arrangement that remains faithful to the original whilst being idiomatically suited to the piano.

- This arrangement has been prepared with practicality in mind, resulting in an edition that is playable for advanced hobbyists as well as established virtuosi.
- Tempo indications, marks of expression and rehearsal letters have all been preserved from the orchestral score.
- Comprehensive bar numbers (at the start of every line) provide an invaluable reference for study and analysis.
- An in-depth introduction and commentary, written by the arranger, details the historical background of the symphony along with notable features of the music.
Unfortunately I do not yet have a recording of this arrangement being performed by a human being. However, below you can listen to good-quality MIDI recordings which will give a reasonable idea of how the various movements sound.

It’s a great arrangement – thank you for taking the time to write it. My disappointment is that the binding means that pages do not stay open, and therefore the piece can only be played when someone else is there to stand and hold the page open! This is a huge problem. I suspect I will have to scan every page, print it and rebind it in order to actually use it. What a pity!

This is very good, it’s just my level. The only problem is getting it to stay open on the piano. A different binding would be better.

I am very impressed with Michael Grant’s piano reduction of the Jean Sinelius Symphony No. 2. So many of the great romantic symphonies exist in solo piano form and now Grant has added Sibelius 2 to that group. He has captured the essence of of the work so that it can be studied, played and enjoyed at the piano. My only minor objection is that the binding doesn’t lay flat, making it difficult to set on a piano rack. Thank you to Michael Grant for his successful undertaking of this difficult task.
